Today’s study is excellent – and there’s not much to add – the verse; ‘As long as it is day, we must do the work of Him who sent me.’, sets the scene.
The words of the preacher adds some detail to the scene, ‘ Our Lord Jesus Christ did not come into the world merely to tell us what to do; He came to do for us what we could never do for ourselves.’ And, as Selwyn’s states; it’s the ‘work of reconciliation – of bringing sinful men and women into relationship with a pardoning God. This is the special work which brought the Father glory.’
And in summary: as Selwyn further writes; ‘The proof that we are Christians lies in our belief that Christ alone could effect the work of reconciliation with God; we rest upon that finished work.’
Do you have comfort that Jesus has reconciled you to God – and He did this for you – because He loves you?
