One statement which stands out for me, is ‘ … Our Lord not only had to leave the earth, He had to be seen to leave it. If Jesus had walked over to the Mount of Olives and disappeared from sight, the disciples might have expected Him to reappear as He had done during the previous 40 days.’
In addition, when reading Acts 1:6-11, you get the feeling that they needed to be prompted with the question (verse 11), “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go to heaven.” Makes you wonder just how long would they have stayed there looking up into the sky!
Another aspect I liked when looking up Ephesians 4:8, referred to in today’s study, was verse 10: ‘He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.’ I was taken with the words, ‘in order to fill the whole universe’, showing that He actively continues His work with us, until His return – a great comfort – do you agree?
