Billheimer, as quoted by Selwyn; are, in my view, perhaps putting an emphasis in the wrong place; ‘The nations of the world are but puppets manipulated by God for the purposes of the Church (I would prefer, if he said – “God’s purposes”), Creation has no other aim. History has no other goal. From before the foundation of the world God has been working toward one grand event, one supreme end – the Church.’
I can accept the overall context – but I see it as more the restoration of men and women’s relationship with God – collectively, the Church – but based on each individual having a personal relationship with God, which then leads us to develop the same loving relationship with each other. These relationships then carry through to eternity.
