The points which I liked the most are: ‘When we read and consider carefully the words of the New Testament writers relating to the story of the incarnation, we sense their struggle to put such an incredible fact into words. Paul says in 2 Corinthians 9:15 “Thank God for His Son – his Gift too wonderful for words”. The thing that astounded the New Testament writers was that the Word really became flesh. …
If God had not come in the flesh then our salvation would not have been possible. Jesus had to be made like us in order to save us because, to use the words of Bishop Handley Moule, “A Saviour who is not wholly God and wholly man would be like a bridge broken at one end.” Let every person gasp at such a mystery. Jesus is the heart of God wrapped in human flesh.’
Based on my ‘road to Damascus’ experience, back in 1991, I think that the one thing which is so totally understated today is the fantastic majesty and immense power of our glorified Jesus. No words can describe the feeling of perfect peace and love when you are in His presence – it’s a feeling, I long to experience again, but on a more permanent basis. Something to die for …
