Today, we move on to our Lord’s seventh and final cry from the cross: ‘Father into your hands I commit my spirit.” (Luke 23:46)

Selwyn alerts us to the fact that from the beginning of His ministry to the end of His life, Jesus was focused on doing His Father’s will; and quotes Luke 2:49, when Jesus at the age of twelve, said: ‘I must be about my Father’s business.’

He goes on to say: “He (Jesus) had stayed in close contact with His Father every hour of every day. Therefore it is not surprising to find that the name that had filled His thoughts during the hours of His life now filled them also in the hour of His death.”
