Selwyn’s introduction to today’s study presents a challenge to all of us.

He says: “The importance of making a binding agreement that commits us to a deeper relationship with God is something every one of us ought to understand and, whenever necessary, put into operation. Whatever words we use to describe it – dedication, consecration, covenant – the decision to commit oneself following confession of sin, or when new challenges are being opened up by the Lord, is an essential aspect of effective Christian living.”

Take a moment, think about the last year and go through the times when you made a binding commitment to Jesus. Even in small ways, something that you did in addition to your normal prayer life or Scripture study – for example, how many times did you commit to fasting, as well as prayer, when you were seeking God’s help to deal with new challenges?

It’s a testing question, don’t you agree?
