Today’s verse is Colossians 1:29 (NIV): “To this end I labour, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me.’

I liked the quote from Dr Larry Crabb, which is (‘slightly modified’): “How often when you interact with people in ‘Christian ministry’ are you aware of an energy flowing through you that doesn’t come from you but from Christ?”

As Selwyn mentions when Dr Crabb invites a show of hands in response, few are raised!

Selwyn goes on to say: “Paul, threw his heart and soul into everything he did and found the energy of Christ matching every effort. When he said ‘I labour’ he was using a term (kopiao in the Greek) which signifies labouring to the point of weariness. He poured out what was poured in, not with reservation but with all the energy which Christ generated within him.”

As we quickly approach Easter, many people in Christian ministry will be looking forward to Easter Monday - when they can rest from their ministry. Sure, it’s a busy time but it’s a time when we can, like Paul, pour out ourselves for Jesus’ sake; knowing that we will be re-filled with more, and more of His love. We just have to give up our preoccupation of looking at our energy gauge and despairing when the gauge is indicating that our ‘tank’ is close to empty. God’s reserve of love is never close to empty – in that we can trust – so, why don’t we?

Why, do you think it is; that we don’t fully use Jesus’ energy, which so powerfully works within us? A good Easter meditation question.
