Selwyn now looks at the next few verses – Colossians 2:1-2(NIV): “I want you to know how much I am struggling for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not met me personally. My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ,”

Selwyn draws out the important fact that ‘all essential truth is found in Christ and (we) need not look any further than Him for spiritual understanding.‘ He goes on to say that it is essential for unity to have ‘a common mind about the truths of the Bible and the supremacy of Christ’.

In general, I believe any revelation or insight beyond that which Scripture unfolds or teaches, is false! Or expressed another way – there is no further revelation (new information) of, or about God, after the last verse of the Book of Revelation was written. Of course, I realise that there could be many who would disagree with these statements – but Paul constantly reminds us, that in Christ we have all the information that we need. Paul’s knowledge came from God therefore those who claim to have received additional revelation about essential truths are in effect saying that they do not believe what Paul has written. There is no other way of looking at this issue – what do you think?
