Well, it has been a fairly busy day – I attended a Passover Meal last night and presented a meditation on Peter’s denial at the local church this morning.

Therefore I’m leaving most of today’s commentary up to Selwyn.

The three points he raises about the cross are worth more than a little time, thinking about.

Selwyn’s points are: “First, apart from the cross, I would never realise the enormity of my sin. …

Second, apart from the cross I would have no clear focus for my faith. …

Third, apart from the cross I would not have a Saviour. …

The cross shows me that Jesus Christ has done everything required for my salvation. All I need do is acknowledge my sin, repent of it, reach out to receive the gift of salvation, and it is mine.”

Of course, these points are not new to true Christians – and, it’s the first point which is underestimated by most people. The average, ‘good’ person is so sinful that they deserve eternal death – and, in this state they can never approach God based on their own efforts. Those people who don’t have a relationship with God have a natural tendency to consider that Selwyn’s points are just plain nonsense, and not worth a second thought.

Our attitude to the cross, is a litmus test, regarding the state of our spiritual health – do you agree?
