In today’s study, we hear some very, good advice: “Right now in God’s presence, ask yourself: Am I honest? Remember, only you can perform this surgery on your soul – only you. No one else but you knows the truth about your self. You can rationalise and twist the facts and no one will know the difference – except you (and God). And remember, too, that there can be no wisdom without morality, no expertise in living without truth and honesty. The wise are those who have integrity.”

In Paul’s first letter to the  Corthinians, 11:27-30 (NLT), we read: “So anyone who eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord unworthily is guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. That is why you should examine yourself before eating the bread and drinking the cup. For if you eat the bread or drink the cup without honoring the body of Christ, you are eating and drinking God’s judgment upon yourself. That is why many of you are weak and sick and some have even died.”

It’s a good habit to develop: a regular self-evaluation of our relationship with God. To look at the last few weeks and ask ourselves – what has our prayer life been like; how much time have we spent reading God’s Word – to what extent have we sought God’s advice on the many decisions that we made each day? Simple questions, such as these, will quickly measure our spiritual ‘pressure’ and heart ‘rate’ for God. What do you think?
