I am totally convinced that Jesus takes an active role, a second by second role, in our daily lives. It’s an amazing thought, that the God who created the universe and all things seen and unseen, does involve Himself with the smallest detail of our earthly journey.

The first reason Selwyn gives, as to why some people find it difficult to believe that God is so involved in our personal story – hits one nail, right on the head: some people have rejected the idea that their life is immensely valuable - ‘they consider ‘themselves unworthy of acceptance, they develop a sense of self-hate and self-rejection. They cannot believe that any human being could take an interest in them, let alone God’.

Consider this: you have been purchased by the blood of Jesus – through His blood, you have been given the priceless gift of eternal life. Just imagine, a number of blood cells that flowed from His body – had your name branded on them, before the beginning of time. How much would it cost to buy eternal life? More than all the gold, silver and precious stones that ever existed in the entire universe – so, perhaps you can start to get an idea of the value that God has placed on you – should you, not recognise that His valuation of your worth, is more accurate than yours?

I also liked, C.S Lewis’ definition of prayer: ‘Prayer is taking part in the process of being known’. Selwyn’s comment should be taken deep into your heart: “How profound. God knows everything there is to know about an elephant, but the elephant cannot join in the process of being known. Only a person made in the image of God can do that.” To put it in different way – animals don’t have the ability to have a living relationship with God; but through prayer and our actions, we are able to develop a stronger and stronger relationship, with each heartbeat.

What’s your view?

Psalm 32:6-8 (NLT):

Therefore, let all the godly pray to you while there is still time, that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment.

For you are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory.

The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.”
