Selwyn now looks at the ‘fact that the Bible itself is pre-eminently a story’.
Listen to what Selwyn had to say: ” … the Bible is a story – a story of how God is at work, moving from a plan laid down in eternity to a climax within history, and then on beyond time to the future. … the more I get caught up in the story that God is telling in the Bible, the less preoccupied I become with my own personal story.”
I think that Selwyn’s words highlight a very important point – first and foremost – the Bible ‘tells the story of God’s sovereign purpose of grace, His master plan of salvation through Jesus’ (John Stott).
In reading the Bible we need to be aware of the bigger picture which is being revealed by God’s Word; and to not fall into the error of creating false ’side-stories’, by incorrect intrepetation of small parts of the Bible, ignoring the reference/context of those verses, as they form part of the overall story. Satan is a specialist, in mis-using verses of Scripture, and he is a good teacher in training his people to do the same. Do you agree?
