Selwyn continues to look at the significance of Lament.
Again, he is able to articulate some excellent points about our agony during periods of ‘confused’ suffering – and his words have even greater force because we know that his life contained more suffering then what most people experience.
In particular, I thought these bits were good: “Lament has the potential to change our attitudes because it compels us to strip our hearts of all pretence and forces us to wrestle with God. … There is no guarantee that our questions will be answered, but we will know Him better. …
Lament has been described as making the most of our losses and disappointments without getting bogged down in them.”
I know from personal experience that during those times of deep despair, and the story war of emotions that arise with the question: ‘Why, is this happening to me?’ Has been the times of greatest spiritual growth – when I have seen more of God’s love, at work in my life. You will be changed forever because you will know God better!
