Selwyn, introduces today’s study with these words: ” … there are occasions in life when problems don’t go away despite our most ardent praying. At such times the divine Counsellor ministers to us His comfort and supernatural strength.”
It has to be said that God, if it is His will, can shield us from anything – He is the Creator God – and nothing, absolutely nothing, is outside His control. For some, that’s a very hard truth to live with – consequently, we have to accept that all bad things that happen to us – are opportunities for God to turn them into something good for us – often it’s a case of strengthening our faith; so that, we can demonstrate to ourselves and others - that we ‘trust His love’; the light that flows from us – at these times – is worth a million words! Job’s story, is an example of a person who suffers – far beyond normal expectation – yet, always – trusts God’s love.
Selwyn, upon reflection of Job’s suffering, writes: “Job, as we see from today’s passage (Job 42:1-17), never got the answers he wanted to his questions, but he received something better: he came through his experiences with a richer sense of God’s presence than he had ever felt before.”
All those who follow Jesus, will have similar experiences – we will suffer – and we won’t hear an answer to our main question: ‘Why, is this happening to me?’
God’s love will guide us to our eternal home - trust, this truth; and all mystery will fall into place at the right time!
