Today, Selwyn continues his discussion on yesterday’s point that ‘in a fallen world not all our expectations will be met’. He goes on to say: “Human relationships, for example, cannot fully satisfy our hearts. There is something in us that only God can truly meet. Don’t try to draw from others the emotional strength that you ought to be drawing from God. People are not enough.”
I agree with Selwyn when he says that the emotions we experience; especially during those times when we are hurt or suffering grief because of a loss, are indicators of the health of our relationship with Jesus.
Jesus never wants to leave us, as we found Him – He loves us too much for that - God’s purpose for your life, is for you to become more like Jesus. To become more like Jesus means that you must change – you must leave those things behind, which are not part of Jesus’ nature. The following words spoken by Jesus nearly two thousand years ago – are still valid today: “Your sins are forgiven. Go – and, sin no more.”
Selwyn’s prayer for today – captures this theme: “O God, thank You that You love me enough to provoke me so that instead of feeling nothing I feel something. How glad I am that though You love me as I am, You love me enough not to let me stay as I am. Amen.”

Better to feel mad …
