To whom do we confess?

Selwyn brings out attention to the words of David when he confesses his sin (adultery and murder) to God: “Against you, you only have I sinned.” [David's sin, first comes about by not obeying God's commandments - from this initially rebellion flows further sin against Bathsheba and Uriah.]

It’s important to recognise, as Selwyn says, ‘that all sin is first and foremost a sin against God, and He is the first one from whom forgiveness must be sought.’

Once we have turned back to God with an obeying heart – that we give our eternal King our full loyalty, with our total being, then we are in a position to confess to anyone else who has been wronged – only in this way, can our confessions be wholehearted and genuine.
