To Follow Jesus
My notes on Every Day with Jesus, written by Selwyn Hughes; revised and updated by Mick Brooks, published by CWR.
March/April 2016 Issue – Straight from the Heart, ‘I have you in my heart … all of you share God’s grace with me’ Philippians 1:7
The text set for today’s reading and meditation:
Philippians 1:2 (NIVUK): “Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Selwyn writes: “Paul’s opening salutation is filled with Christian content, and the usual wish for good health is transformed into a blessing: ‘Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.’ …
As followers of Jesus, when writing on a friendly basis to one another we can seek to bless each other with words that reflect our wish for spiritual prosperity. …
Paul’s wish for the Philippians is that they will receive not only grace, but grace and peace. Grace oils the wheels of life, and peace makes the ride more pleasant.”
I must admit that I often forget to use words that would reflect my wish for another person’s spiritual prosperity and this study has prompted me to try and do better in this area in the future. How about you?
