Thanks for the memory!

To Follow Jesus

My notes on Every Day with Jesus, written by Selwyn Hughes; revised and updated by Mick Brooks, published by CWR.

March/April 2016 Issue –  Straight from the Heart‘I have you in my heart … all of you share God’s grace with me’  Philippians 1:7

The text set for today’s reading and meditation:

Philippians 1:3  (NIVUK): “I thank my God every time I remember you.”

In Selwyn opening comments, he says: “One of Paul’s primary reasons for writing to the Philippians was to thank them for their continued sponsorship of his ministry – he not only thanks them but thanks God for them.”

Selwyn then brings this concept of thankfulness to our attention, as follows (slightly modified): “It would be more wonderful still if we not only thanked God for those who have brought a special blessing into our lives, but prayed for them too.

The most joyous Christians are those who turn everything to prayer and praise. Does anyone come to mind at this moment who has been a special blessing in your life? Have you thanked them? If not, do so today. Thank God for them too, and offer up a prayer for them.”

In Colossians 3:15-16, we hear Paul say: “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.”

Our love for others is demonstrated by our readiness to thank God for the people He sends into our lives, especially those who help us while we are on this journey of faith, as we follow Jesus, day by day.

Any comments?
