Completion Day

To Follow Jesus

My notes on Every Day with Jesus, written by Selwyn Hughes; revised and updated by Mick Brooks, published by CWR.

March/April 2016 Issue –  Straight from the Heart‘I have you in my heart … all of you share God’s grace with me’  Philippians 1:7

The text set for today’s reading and meditation:

Philippians 1:6  (NIVUK):” being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Selwyn’s opening and closing statements are good: “We spend another day on this sixth verse, reflecting this time on the fact that He who has begun a good work in us will carry it on to completion ‘until the day of Christ Jesus’. God does not allow the work He has begun in you to be thwarted. What a basis for confidence. …

There is for all of us a day of completion – a deadline, if we can call it that – the day of Christ. For all those willing to give themselves to God’s dealings it will not just be a judgment day but a glorious day of completion and consummation – a wonderful parade of those to whom God will apply the finishing touches. Hallelujah!”

As Selwyn has said in today’s study, if we were to rely on our own strength to complete the good work of salvation that Jesus has started in us, we would all fail.  In Luke 18:26-27, we read: “Those who heard this asked, ‘Who then can be saved?’ Jesus replied, ‘What is impossible with man is possible with God.’”

In our daily walk with Jesus, we depend on the Holy Spirit’s guidance to keep to the narrow track, we just don’t have the spiritual maturity to do it by ourselves.

Any comments?
