To Follow Jesus
My notes on Every Day with Jesus, written by Selwyn Hughes; revised and updated by Mick Brooks, published by CWR.
March/April 2016 Issue – Straight from the Heart, ‘I have you in my heart … all of you share God’s grace with me’ Philippians 1:7
The text set for today’s reading and meditation (I’ve added verse 14):
Philippians 3:15-16 (NIVUK): ”All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.
Only let us live up to what we have already attained.”
Selwyn reminds us that within our Christian churches you will find various levels of Christian maturity and we should not be disparaging to those who are still learning to apply the basic truths of the Gospel to their lives.
He tells us to trust God to open everyone’s eyes so that they will see things from the same point of view. However, I’ve have got to say that from what I see in the Christian media there appears to be an explosion of differing views surfacing, which question some of the long-term understanding of a number of biblical truths. Perhaps, it is a sign of the times?
Selwyn concludes by saying: ‘Live in accordance with the light you have received.’ We, those who closely follow Jesus, have been given the Holy Spirit who is gradually transforming us into the likeness of Christ; and, the major transformative power is His guidance on what is the truth of God’s Word.
John 14:26, “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” The same Holy Spirit, who was given to the Lord’s disciples has also been given to us, and He will teach us all things necessary for our walk with Our Lord.
