To Follow Jesus

My notes on Every Day with Jesus, written by Selwyn Hughes; revised and updated by Mick Brooks, published by CWR.

March/April 2016 Issue –  Straight from the Heart,  ‘I have you in my heart … all of you share God’s grace with me’  Philippians 1:7

The text set for today’s reading and meditation:

Philippians 3:19-20 (NIVUK): ”Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Saviour from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, “

I thought the best part of today’s study was Selwyn’s conclusion.

“Consider this question: Is my church, as far as I can make it, a colony of heaven? Is my home here in time, as far as I can make it, a settlement of eternity? Do Jesus’ rules and customs prevail within its walls/ Is service the motive, peace and atmosphere, joy the sunshine and love the energy? Remember, your residence may be in this world, but your real citizenship is in heaven!”

As Selwyn says, we should be good stewards of the things we are responsible for while on this earth, but our eyes are always on Jesus, following Him to our eternal home.
