To Follow Jesus
My notes on Every Day with Jesus, written by Selwyn Hughes; revised and updated by Mick Brooks, published by CWR.
March/April 2016 Issue – Straight from the Heart, ‘I have you in my heart … all of you share God’s grace with me’ Philippians 1:7
The text set for today’s reading and meditation:
Philippians 3:20-21 (NIVUK): ”But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Saviour from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.”
Selwyn writes: “Paul now goes on to focus on the reasons why his, and our, focus is to be on heaven. This world has many imperfections and struggles that we constantly wrestle with, which is why we are longing for the return of the glorious Saviour Jesus who will one day take us to be with Him in heaven. …
Our first creation body may be troubled by age and disease and give way to death, but our new creation body is guaranteed to be resplendent with glory – a body like Jesus’ glorious body. Because He lives we shall live for ever!”
I think that when we focus on heaven – our final destination; we start to realise just how short a time we spend on this troubled planet, which has its glimpses of creation beauty but is flawed by the sinfulness (greed and lust) of all those who don’t have an on-going, loving relationship with God.
Consequently, we should consider it a blessing, when we are given an opportunity to share the good news about Jesus with those who are seeking the meaning of life, and a purpose to living.
