Paul’s crowning joy

To Follow Jesus

My notes on Every Day with Jesus, written by Selwyn Hughes; revised and updated by Mick Brooks, published by CWR.

March/April 2016 Issue –  Straight from the Heart‘I have you in my heart … all of you share God’s grace with me’  Philippians 1:7

The text set for today’s reading and meditation:

Philippians 4:1 (NIVUK): ”Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, dear friends!”

I liked this part of today’s study: “It was with a view to being crowned with glory and honour as our truly human representative that Jesus tasted death for all of us. Remembering this will help us to ‘stand firm in the Lord’, knowing we are loved not just by His servants but by the Master Himself. And His love, unlike the best of human love, is a love that is guaranteed never to diminish, and never to change.”

Selwyn also states: “How remarkable that our lives are so bound up together as Christians.”  Just think about this for a moment, and meditate upon the following questions: How bound up am I, with other Christians from my church and from my community? Do I spend time with other Christians in undertaking services for the people within my local community? Or, do I spend my time as a persistent, prayer warrior spending time with a group praying for the needs of others and praising God, when prayers are answered?

I’m guessing that there are many of us who recognise that we not as bound up with other Christians, as we should be!
