The text set for today’s reading and meditation:
Philippians 4:8 (NIVUK): ”Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.”
This verse is one of the great ones that we should spend time to commit to memory. I’ve found it to be extremely valuable in establishing the right environment for our approach to everyday life.
Selwyn writes: “Looked at positively, it is a glorious invitation to explore every part of God’s creation with childlike curiosity. Paul encourages us to let our imagination take wings and range over all the God-given landscape of loveliness and excellence. …
You may discover in a thousand ways in this fallen yet still beautiful world we can catch a glimpse of creation’s glory and even now taste the goodness conceived in the holy, healthy mind of the Maker.”
This verse helps us to keep in balance the good things of this life and the evil that is so evident throughout this world. It is this balance which helps us to maintain a healthy mind and to keep anxiety under control.
