To Follow Jesus
My notes on Every Day with Jesus, written by Selwyn Hughes; revised and updated by Mick Brooks, published by CWR.
July/August 2016 Issue – Seek Me and Live, ‘let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream’ Amos 5:24
The text set for today’s reading and meditation (the key verse is highlighted):
Amos 5:24 (NIVUK): “But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!“
The nature of our relationship with Jesus, will indicate the holiness of our worship – in all that we do.
As discussed yesterday, if our church-based worship services are just based on cultural rituals, which, may or may not reflect our love for our Lord and, in turn, reflects the way we love each other – then, our worship is condemned by God and we are also seen by God as self-righteous hypocrites.
Likewise, we see in today’s study that the way we conduct ourselves within our communities, must also reflect the way we love Jesus and each other. ‘Agape’ love should be seen as an expression of the way we relate to everyone (not just fellow followers); that is, our relationships should be based on justice, mercy, forgiveness and righteousness.
Selwyn says: “God wants righteousness in the courts and markets as much as He wants hymns and prayers in the church”
What I would like to highlight is that Jesus would like to see His righteousness and justice residing in our hearts and expressed as honest worship – independent of environment – church, courts, markets, community; and of greatest importance home and family.
