Can God change His mind?

To Follow Jesus

My notes on Every Day with Jesus, written by Selwyn Hughes; revised and updated by Mick Brooks, published by CWR.

July/August 2016 Issue –  Seek Me and Live‘let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream’ Amos 5:24

The text set for today’s reading and meditation (the key verse is highlighted):

Amos 7:4-6 (NIVUK):”This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: the Sovereign Lord was calling for judgment by fire; it dried up the great deep and devoured the land.

Then I cried out, ‘Sovereign Lord, I beg you, stop! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!’ So the Lord relented. ‘This will not happen either,’ the Sovereign Lord said.”

We learn from today’s study that God’s communication with us is a dialogue which is centred on our response to His Word. And it is no coincidence that much of God’s interaction with us involves a call for us to repent when we have strayed from His will.

As Selwyn states: “God’s character never changes but His dealings with people change – depending on their response to His commands.”

It is this remarkable quality of Jesus to respond to our actions that allows a rich and personal relationship to develop between an amazing Creator God and His children.

Do you agree?
