The stuff of revivals

To Follow Jesus

My notes on Every Day with Jesus, written by Selwyn Hughes; revised and updated by Mick Brooks, published by CWR.

July/August 2016 Issue –  Seek Me and Live‘let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream’ Amos 5:24

The text set for today’s reading and meditation (the key verse is highlighted):

Amos 7:14-17 (NIVUK):”Amos answered Amaziah, ‘I was neither a prophet nor the son of a prophet, but I was a shepherd, and I also took care of sycamore-fig trees. But the Lord took me from tending the flock and said to me, “Go, prophesy to my people Israel.”

Now then, hear the word of the Lord. You say, ‘“Do not prophesy against Israel, and stop preaching against the descendants of Isaac.”

Therefore this is what the Lord says: ‘“Your wife will become a prostitute in the city, and your sons and daughters will fall by the sword. Your land will be measured and divided up, and you yourself will die in a pagan country. And Israel will surely go into exile, away from their native land.”’

We can all agree with Selwyn when he writes: “God’s Word is unstoppable and His Spirit uncontainable. That is the stuff of which revivals are made.”

In a sense we are all servants of our Lord and our work for His kingdom is independent of any paid work we may do to earn our daily bread. Consequently, as we are only answerable to Jesus then we are free to serve Him as His Spirit guides us.

Any comments?
