To Follow Jesus
My notes on Every Day with Jesus, written by Selwyn Hughes; revised and updated by Mick Brooks, published by CWR.
July/August 2016 Issue – Seek Me and Live, ‘let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream’ Amos 5:24
The text set for today’s reading and meditation (the key verse is highlighted):
Amos 9:1 (NIVUK):”I saw the Lord standing by the altar, and he said: ‘Strike the tops of the pillars so that the thresholds shake. Bring them down on the heads of all the people; those who are left I will kill with the sword. Not one will get away, none will escape. …”
We learn fro today’s study that everything the people were doing in the northern kingdom was fake. An altar in the wrong city, a leader who was not anointed to lead worship services and a population whose worship was based on impure motives.
Indeed, as Selwyn mentions, how long could this situation last before God intervenes to end this farce?
We need to examine our own situation, are there aspects that need to be looked at in the true light of reality? There is a sense of urgency because the longer we delay, the more likely God will act to end the charade.
