Lord of all the nations

To Follow Jesus

My notes on Every Day with Jesus, written by Selwyn Hughes; revised and updated by Mick Brooks, published by CWR.

July/August 2016 Issue –  Seek Me and Live‘let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream’ Amos 5:24

The text set for today’s reading and meditation (the key verse is highlighted):

Amos 9:7 (NIVUK):”Are not you Israelites the same to me as the Cushites?’ declares the Lord.

‘Did I not bring Israel up from Egypt, the Philistines from Caphtor and the Arameans from Kir?”

Selwyn draws our attention to this important point – God may have chosen us for His glory but this is a sign not of our superiority to others but of His mercy.

It is a sin to feel superior to non-Christians because we have been chosen by Jesus and have heard His call to follow Him. Our faith is a result of God’s grace and we should never presume on His mercy, compassion and love.
