To Follow Jesus
My notes on Every Day with Jesus, written by Selwyn Hughes; revised and updated by Mick Brooks, published by CWR.
July/August 2016 Issue – Seek Me and Live, ‘let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream’ Amos 5:24
The text set for today’s reading and meditation (the key verse is highlighted):
Amos 9:8 (NIVUK):” … ‘Surely the eyes of the Sovereign Lord are on the sinful kingdom. I will destroy it from the face of the earth.
Yet I will not totally destroy the descendants of Jacob,’ declares the Lord.”
As Selwyn reminded us yesterday the only refuge to be found in our Holy God is His love and grace, and he repeats this message in today’s study; “There is no hiding place fro God’s wrath except in God’s own grace.”
We can never plead that we are good people and deserve forgiveness; no one is good except Jesus (as God) – the standard set by our holy God is perfection – and we have all failed to meet this requirement. (Luke 18:19 “‘Why do you call me good?’ Jesus answered. ‘No one is good – except God alone.”)
