‘Come home’

To Follow Jesus

My notes on Every Day with Jesus, written by Selwyn Hughes; revised and updated by Mick Brooks, published by CWR.

July/August 2016 Issue –  Seek Me and Live‘let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream’ Amos 5:24

The text set for today’s reading and meditation (the key verse is highlighted):

Amos 9:14 (NIVUK):” … and I will bring my people Israel back from exile.

They will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them. They will plant vineyards and drink their wine; they will make gardens and eat their fruit.”

Selwyn provides us with this excellent summary; “To return from exile is to come home to God, to be reconciled to His love and holiness and to be aligned to His sovereign will.

Such a time sees the rebuilding of the ruins of social life, the restoration of fruitfulness and a recovery of joy in relationships. And revival is the profound and life-changing experience of home-coming.”

I liked this bit: “Through God’s reconciling cross the way home from exile is open for sinners everywhere.”

We start our journey as strangers and separated from God; yet through Jesus’ call to follow Him, we can be confident to find our permanent and eternal ‘home’. How great is that?
